The
Graduate Union of English Students (G.U.E.S.S.) was created in
the Spring of 1994 as a grassroots student organization to address
the needs and concerns of all graduate students in English. The
purpose of G.U.E.S.S. is to:
--- promote
the interests of English graduate students in the department
and in the university;
--- further
develop the quality of graduate education and overall learning
environment within the English Department;
--- establish
personal and social contact among members as well as between
members and professional writers, English academics, and professionals
in related disciplines;
--- advocate
and/or promote educational, economic, and cultural opportunities
for English graduate students within the university and community.
All
graduate students in the English Department are considered members
of G.U.E.S.S. A Steering Committee of up to ten members, plus
the five A.C.E.S.
representatives, is elected annually to address student concerns
and shape the activities and agenda of the organization.
